As many of you may know, I traveled through Greece this summer. I went to Athens, and the Islands of Santorini, Paros, and Mykonos. I have honestly never been anywhere more beautiful in my life. To prove that, all the photos in this post were taken on my iPhone. No fancy camera needed for a place as stunning as this! I had an amazing time while in Greece, and I thought I’d share some of the tips and tricks I learned along my way..
The Best Greek Islands: Athens
Athens is a very large metropolitan area. Over half of Greece lives here! When guiding your way around the city, I would suggest public transport via the underground rail system. It is easy to navigate, and super cheap at 4,50 euros for a day pass. The ancient city of Acropolis that sits above the city is a site that can’t be missed. The history and the architecture are incredible. I didn’t have a chance to go, but I also heard the Acropolis museum is an awesome experience as well. And you’re never a true Athenian if you don’t go to at least one rooftop bar in the main square. Their night life is laid back and the view of the city on the roof top at sunset is amazing.
The Best Greek Islands: Santorini
As one of the top travel destinations in the world, Santorini lives up to its expectations, if not exceeds them. Of course you can’t go without seeing the iconic blue domed churches of Oia. The cliffside town is perfect to have dinner, and shop while watching the sunset. They have a great night life in Santorini that really caters well to American tourists. I recognized every song they played! Lastly, we went wine tasting at the beautiful cliffside winery Venetsanos, and watched one of guys from our tour group propose to his girlfriend! It was such a perfect way to end our two days spent on the island.
The Best Greek Islands: Paros
Paros was definitely the least “touristy” out of all the islands we went to. It has a quaint island town feel that you can’t help get swept up in. We spent our first day lounging on Parasporos beach. The waters were so clear you could see down to the ocean floor anywhere you swam! It was so perfect to spend the day lounging, watching other group members play paddleball, and going for a swim to cool off. The next day we went on an all day BBQ cruise which I would highly suggest to anyone going to any Greek island! The food is so fresh and amazing, and the stops at smaller islands and cliffs are gorgeous! It was so relaxing, but being in the sun all day was definitely tiring! The sunsets in Greece are iconic, but being on a smaller island with less tourists made them that much more special just being able to sit and appreciate them.
The Best Greek Islands: Mykonos
Oh Mykonos… The best way I could describe this island is spring break on steroids. It’s a constant party all day and all night. We stayed at the Paradise Beach Resort which is the most popular resort on the island. There are bars at the beach that have a constant stream of music and dancing throughout the day that moves over to their night club just a 30 second walk away at night. I also really enjoyed the shops in downtown Mykonos where we walked around, ate crepes, and watched Euro 2016. On the last day in Mykonos, we did another boat cruise around the island. We were all so tired it was the perfect way to relax and recoop before we headed back to Athens to head home.
Greece was an adventure I will never forget, and I am so excited I was able to share it with ya’ll. I have more exciting trips planned soon, and I always keep my adventures documented on my snapchat: clarissairaci. Follow along!
