Hey, y’all! So if you know me, you know I love true crime. Law & Order: SVU, Forensic Files, CSI, you name it, I’ve watched it. When I used to commute to work, I got hooked on true crime podcasts and now I listen to them all the time. I love to pop one on while I’m cleaning or on a long drive. With my big move only a few weeks away, I’m planning out my podcast list for the 24-hour drive to Texas and thought I’d list all of the best true crime podcasts that would be perfect for a long road trip.
The Best True Crime Podcasts For Road Trips
My Favorite Murder
This is probably one of the most popular true crime podcasts out there. Georgia Hardstark and Karen Kilgariff are two comedians who tell interesting true crime stories that they’ve found online. They’re incredibly relatable and also chat about their mental health struggles and everyday life. I have listened to every single episode of this one and have also seen them live! They post one full-length podcast episode a week and one mini-episode, or “minisode” as they call it, where they read listener submissions of true crime stories as well. They just came out with a book too that I can’t wait to read!
Dirty John
Dirty John is a podcast that follows the story of John Meehan and Debra Newell. John begins dating Debra although Debra’s family doesn’t like him, and what ensues is probably the most complicated and insane web of love and deceit I have ever heard. This one definitely kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. It’s also been made into a Bravo limited series as well that was really good!
Up and Vanished
This was one of the very first true crime podcasts I ever listened to. The first season follows podcaster Payne Lindsay and private investigator Dr. Maurice Godwin as the try to figure out what happened to Tara Grinstead; a high school teacher and beauty queen that disappeared without a trace in 2005. They actually ended up solving this case because of the podcast which is so awesome that they were able to bring justice to such an old case. There are still updates on this one being posted due to the ongoing trials and investigation. The second season is about the disappearance of Kristal Anne Reisinger in Colorado. Both are compelling and tragic stories of two young girls who vanished without a trace.
Cold
This is one that was actually a little bit harder for me to listen to. Cold details the story of Josh and Susan Powell. A seemingly normal couple from the outside that behind closed doors had a rocky relationship. The events that ensue are gut-wrenching and almost unbelievable. I won’t go into too much detail, but both Josh and Susan kept diaries that are read on the podcast and gave me the chills at times.
